Munster Club Finals - Results

Sunday 26th April in U.L., Limerick our 3rd & 5th Division teams competed in the Munster Club Finals.
Unfortunately all did not go so well. As always this is a very tough competition to win as the league champions from all the Munster counties attempt to take the title and go forward to the All-Irelns Finals.
Our 3rd Division team were up against a very good Ballymacarbery team from Waterford in their first round. All matches were very close, with just a matter of a few aces deciding most games. In the end or team went down on a score of 4-1. It has been a very eventful and successful year for this team and the experiences against top opposition can only be good for their respective games.
Our 5th Division team faired alot better. In their first rond they played Ennis, who they managed to beat 4-1. They then faced a very good St.Mary's team of Cork in the semi's but unfortunately lost by the narrowest of margins, 4-3. This St. Mary's team then went on to take the title relatively comfortably in the final.
Tipperary did fair pretty well on the day overall and best of luck now to the teams of Gurteen and Roscrea in the National Finals on May 17th.

5th Division Win League Title

Sunday 19th April saw our 5th Division Team win the League Title against a very strong Gurteen team. The Gurteen team would have went into this match as slight favourites but Templemore really turned it on to end up 4-2 winners.
The final, played in Ballycommon, began well with our ladies winning the first doubles. A very close 3-set match in the mens doubles, went in favour of Gurteen, so 1-1.
Our Ladies singles was another hard fought match which was won by Gurteen but Templemore pulled that back when winning the Mens Singles. So the teams at 2-2 going into the final three mixed games.
Templemore duly won the 1st Mixed 2-0 and another very tight 3-set win saw Templemore pick up the title.
This team now go forward to the Munster Club Finals, in U.L. on Sunday 26th April.
Templemore won this Championship last season so it would be brilliant to repeat the feat.
Best Of Luck !

4th Division Beaten In Final

Thursday 16th April saw our 4th Div team beaten by Roscrea in another very close final.
There have been many battles between these teams this year, with Templemore having slightly the upperhand until this. All matches between the teams have come down to the matter of who won the tight games. With all but two matches going to three sets, these tight games were pivotal to the overall result. In the end Roscrea pulled out a 4-2 victory.

Templemore Win 3rd Division League Title

Tuesday 14th April saw another unbelievable night for the club, when our 3rd Division team were crowned County League Champions.
In speaking to some veteran players throughout the county, this win seems to be the first time the club has won the league at this high level. A great achievement !

Hillview Sports Club of Clonmel, were the opponents and the 2 previous games during the league stages had resulted in a 1-1 draw.
This was sure to be a close one and so it turned out to be.
Hillview had taken the opening Ladies and Mens Doubles to storm into a 2-0 lead. Templemore then won both the Ladies and Mens Singles to leave it at 2-2 going into the final 3 Mixed Doubles matches.
When Templemore won the 1st Mixed Doubles, 2-1, it meant that if they won either of the last 2 Mixed Doubles matches, they would win the title.
With Templemore leading in both matches it looked good and when they won the 2nd Mixed Doubles match it was Templemore's Title.

Well done to the team on a great performance and to the great support they got on the night.

6th Division B Win League Title

Tuesday 7th April marked another great night for the club as our 6th Division B team won the League.
They overcame a very good Gurteen team 4-3 in the final, after Sinead Bourke & John Maher won the last and deciding mixed doubles.
Most of this team only started playing competitively at the end of last season, while reaching a cup final. This definitely wet their appetite for the game and it is great to see them pick up their first title. This has been a very committed team all season and it is a credit to them that they saw all their efforts, reap their deserved rewards.
Well Done !, to the team of
Edel Hickey, Sinead Bourke, Catherine Scanlon, Margaret Ryan, Matt & Pat Butler, John Maher and Sean-Patrick Guerins.

3rd Division Through To League Final

On Tuesday 7th April, in Colaiste Pobal, Roscrea our 3rd Division Team had another unbelievable result to reach the League Final.
What a run this team has had !
They were definitely the underdogs in this Semi-final clash, against a well established Ballycommon team. They managed to play beyond themselves, in winning 4-2 on the night.
In the final they will face a very good Hillview team, who they played during the league stages. The results between these teams were 1-1, so this final is sure to be another cracker.
This final will be played in Colaiste Pobal, on Tuesday 14th April at 8pm.

5th Division Through to League Final

Monday 6th April saw our 5th Division Team win their Semi-final, in Shinrone, to book their place in the County League Final.
They beat a very good Grange team, who had already beaten them twice, in knocking them out of the County Cup.
As usual it came to a final match decider to see who would go through and thankfully they got there. Down through the years, it has been Templemore teams who have lost these close deciding games, to win matches. This year our teams seem to be winning these games and this is a major plus for the whole club.
In the final, this team will now play, this years County Cup winners, Gurteen, who beat this same Grange team in the final of that Cup. It is sure to be another tight affair with the winning team going onto the represent Tipperary in the Munster Club Finals on April 26th in UL, Limerick.

Another Munster Title for Templemore

The Munster Division 2,3,4,5 & 6 Doubles and Mixed Championships were held in UL, Limerick last Sunday 5th April.
This County Champions in each of these Divisions in Ladies, Mens and Mixed Doubles go onto compete at Munster Level against the championship from each of the other 5 counties.
Our 6th Division Mens Doubles pairing of Joe Keating & Sumesh Babu ended up in the rare situation of being joint winners in the doubles. A great result for their first experience at Munster Level.
Our 5th Division Ladies pairing of Catherine Maher & Eileen Ryan were very narrowly beaten into the silver medal spot by a very good Cork pair.
Our 5th Division Mixed pairing of Catherine Maher & PJ Nolan picked up the Runner/Up prize, just narrowly missing out on winning it.
The 4th Division Mixed pairing of Niamh Connolly & Robert Ingram were very unlucky in their early match which ultimately cost them in picking up a prize.
However our 4th Mens Doubles pairing of Robert Ingram & Kieran did manage to win through in a very tough division and held of a very good Kerry pair to pick up another Munster Title.

Well done to the rest of the Tipperary contingent on the day, who picked up titles in the
6th & 2nd Division Ladies Doubles and the 2nd Division Mens Doubles.

Juvenile Competition

Saturday 5th April saw the inaugural, Chris Guesdon Perpetual Shield, being played.
This team competitiion brought about some very tough and close matches and it was only the difference of a few points, which decided any match.
In the end it was Jamie Maloney's team, aided by Richard Meagher and Dylan Moloney, which came through in the end and won this competition for the first time.
In joint 2nd place just 3-points off the winners were Sean Patrick Guerin's team of Cathal Ryan and Darragh Kennedy and Alan O Riordain's team of Colin O Riordain and Brian Hennessy.
This competition will be held every year and it is sure to grow and grow.

Chris Guesdon had a great interest in the Juvenile aspect of the game and approx. 10 years ago, it was his interest, drive and commitment that reinstated the juvenile side of the club.
Due to ill-health, he is unable to be involved at the moment but the club are committed to carrying on his work.
Many players who are winning competitions for the club today, such as Robert Ingram, would not have got the opportunity to play juvenile badminton but for the efforts of Chris. This is one reason we this competition is sure to receive huge interest in the years to come.

4th Division Team Win Cup

Great results for Templemore Badminton are just following each other at the moment and we definitely don't want the sequence to end.
On Thursday April 2nd or 4th Div. Team won the County Cup in beating Roscrea by the narrowest of margins.
Again it came down to a deciding match. This time when finishin 3-3 on the night and 7 all, in the number of set won, it came down to the fact that our team had the higher ace count, that secured a very tight victory.
The team were delighted and know that the league final in two weeks time, against the same opposition, is sure to be equally as close.

3rd Division Team Win Cup

Tuesday 31st March marked a great night for Templemore Badminton Club as our 3rd Division Team won the County Cup in Colaiste Pobal, Roscrea.
They overcame a very good Roscrea Team 4-2 in the final.
With 4 different finals on in the hall, it was destined that it would be this clash, that would go all they way and as always would be the last to leave the hall. It was nail-biting to the finish and our team were glad to come out on the winning side, having endured enough heartbreak in finals.
It is a long time since the club have had a team good enough to win at 3rd Division and hopefully this will only bring-on all the players in the club.
